International Travel to Canada

Canada has diverse entry requirements based on your origin and travel method, so plan ahead to ensure you have all necessary documentation!

All United States Citizens must carry a valid U.S. passport to enter Canada that does not expire within six months of your trip. U.S. citizens are not required to have either a visa or Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA).

Click here to discover specific entry requirements by country or territory by and click here to view reasons why an individual could be found inadmissible. Complete this questionnaire to learn if you need a visa or Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA).

Traveling to Canada - Reminders and Recommendations

  • Prior to your flight, fill out any pre-arrival forms through your airline
  • Upon arrival:
    • You'll print a receipt at a kiosk
    • A customs officer will check your receipt and may ask a couple of questions regarding your reason for travel
    • You must show the checked receipt to enter baggage claim
    • To exit the airport, you'll give the checked receipt to airport security
  • Cash in the form of US Dollars (USD) is not accepted. There is a currency exchange counter in the PATH  near the Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel, should you need Canadian Dollars (CAD).

Air Canada has reached a settlement with its pilots, and flights are operating normally. We’re pleased to let you know that you can proceed with your travel as currently planned.

We care deeply about the well-being of our conference attendees and want to keep you informed of any developments that could affect your travel plans. Recently, there was concern about a potential Air Canada pilot labor strike that could have impacted flights leading up to and during the 2024 HBA Annual Conference. Fortunately, we are pleased to inform you that the strike did not occur, and there is no anticipated disruption to Air Canada flights.

While no issues are anticipated, we still recommend that all attendees double-check their flight itineraries as a precaution.

Key Recommendations:

Check Your Flight Itinerary:

If you are scheduled to fly on Air Canada or a flight operated by Air Canada (e.g., United Airlines flights to and from Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) operated by Air Canada), it’s a good idea to confirm your travel details.

Review Airline Policies:

Although no disruptions are expected, we suggest reviewing the cancellation or rebooking policies of Air Canada and any partner airlines in the Star Alliance network, such as United Airlines.

Stay Informed:

Staying updated on travel alerts is always a good practice for those flying with Star Alliance partners, including Lufthansa, Swiss International Air Lines, Austrian Airlines, Singapore Airlines, ANA, Turkish Airlines, Avianca, Brussels Airlines, and South African Airways.

We are looking forward to seeing you at the 2024 HBA Annual Conference and appreciate your attention to this update.
