Join us for the highly-anticipated, third annual HBA Women of Color Wellness Summit featuring a special screening of the illuminating documentary film "Arise Firebird: Women of Color Finding Joy in Work" by acclaimed filmmaker Jimi Okubanjo. This heart-wrenching yet uplifting film follows the journeys of three inspiring women in the UK who faced toxic racism and sexism in the workplace, overcame deep trauma, and rebuilt their careers and lives on their own terms.

Following the film, attendees will participate in large group discussions led by Jimi Okubanjo, who will provide her insights and reflections as one of the women profiled in the film. You will then have the opportunity to join smaller sister circles to share your personal experiences of exclusionary practices and engage in empowering conversations on overcoming barriers.

Don’t miss this chance to connect, heal, and find strength in your shared stories and resilience.

In direct response to the findings from McKinsey's Women in the Workplace 2021 Report which revealed the disproportionate challenges faced by women of color in the workplace, this summit launched as a pre-conference experience at the 2021 HBA Annual Conference. The report highlighted that women of color were significantly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, frequently encountered exclusionary behaviors, experienced higher rates of workplace departure, and lacked allies in their professional lives.

Inspired by these insights, the HBA embarked on a strategic initiative to focus attention on the experiences of women of color. As part of this initiative, the HBA Women of Color affinity group played a vital role in identifying co-chairs for the summit, a practice that continues to ensure authentic representation and leadership within the event. This transformative summit aims to address the unique challenges faced by women of color, foster a sense of wellness and empowerment, and build a supportive community that celebrates their resilience and achievements. Allies are welcomed and encouraged to attend.
